Former Manchester United defender Patrice Evra has been handed a suspended 12-month prison sentence after being found guilty of abandoning his family for over two years.

According to Le Parisien, the Nanterre prosecutor’s office confirmed Evra’s sentence. The 43-year-old allegedly owes €969,000 in unpaid alimony, having abandoned his wife Sandra Evra and their two children between May 1, 2021, and September 28, 2023.

The 12-month sentence has been suspended for two years. Additionally, Evra has been ordered to pay his wife €4,000 for moral damages and €2,000 for legal costs.

Evra has appealed the decision, with his lawyer, Jerome Boursican, stating, “The facts are disputed by my client.”
