The Federal High Court of Nigeria in Abuja granted bail to former Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman, in the sum of N10 billion.

Mamman is facing a 12-count charge filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), alleging his involvement in laundering approximately N33.8 billion and acquiring properties with illicit funds.

Justice James Omotosho, delivering the ruling, specified that Mamman must provide two sureties who each possess a landed property worth N750 million within the court’s jurisdiction. Alternatively, Mamman can opt to secure the bail with a bank guarantee or bond covering the bail sum.

The judge mandated the sureties to present evidence of tax payment for three consecutive years and ordered Mamman to deposit his travel passport with the court until the conclusion of the trial.

Following the bail ruling, Mamman will remain in Kuje prison pending when he fulfills the bail conditions.

The trial is scheduled to commence on September 25, with the prosecution gearing up to proceed with the case against Mamman and others implicated.

This development marks a critical turn in one of the most high-profile corruption cases in recent times, casting a spotlight on the judiciary’s handling of major financial crimes in Nigeria.
