The Lagos State Police Command in Nigeria has arrested a couple attempting to sell their two-year-old son to fund their travel to Canada.

The couple, aged 22 and 28, were apprehended on Tuesday during their attempt to sell the boy.

SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the command’s spokesman, confirmed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday, July 11, 2024.

According to Hundeyin, the Isolo Divisional Police Officer (DPO) received information that the couple went to Isolo General Hospital around 2:45 p.m. on Tuesday and declared their intention to sell their son.

“Following the information, operatives from the division swiftly moved to the hospital. The baby, aged two, has been rescued,”

“Upon interrogation, the couple confessed that they decided to sell the two-year-old baby to fund the man’s travel to Canada for a greener pasture,” Hundeyin said.
