President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of Nigeria has announced the creation of the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development, although no minister has been appointed for the new ministry yet.
The announcement was made on Tuesday, July 9, at the State House during the inauguration of the Renewed Hope Livestock Reform Implementation Committee.
The inauguration was attended by Vice President Kashim Shettima, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, and other cabinet members.
The creation of the ministry follows President Tinubu’s approval on September 15, 2023, for the establishment of the Presidential Committee dedicated to livestock industry reform.
This committee aims to provide sustainable solutions to the conflicts affecting the sector. The decision to form the committee was based on a report from the National Conference on Livestock Reforms and Mitigation of Associated Conflicts in Nigeria.
The new Federal Ministry of Livestock Development will oversee the implementation of reforms in the livestock industry, aiming to improve management practices, enhance productivity, and foster peaceful coexistence between herders and farmers.
