Chelsea Football Club has appointed Seyi Olofinjana to a key talent management role focusing on Africa, The Athletic reports. Olofinjana, 44, will oversee recruitment recommendations across the continent and collaborate with a newly appointed scout for the region.
Olofinjana, also the executive director of Imperial FC in Nigeria’s third division, has a proven track record in talent development, including procuring Nigerian talent like Taiwo Awoniyi, now at Nottingham Forest after joining Liverpool in 2015.
This appointment reflects Chelsea’s strategic shift to nurture talent from Africa earlier in their careers, following the success of African stars such as Didier Drogba, Michael Essien, and John Obi Mikel, who thrived at Chelsea after moving from other European clubs.
