Ebenezer Smith, a Ghanaian chef popularly known as Chef Smith, has been arrested for fabricating a Guinness World Record claim for the longest cooking marathon by an individual.

At a press conference on Tuesday, Chef Smith declared himself the new record holder for an 820-hour and 25-minute cooking marathon, supposedly conducted from February 1 to March 6, 2024. He shared this announcement widely on social media.

However, Alina Polianskaya, Public Relations Executive for Guinness World Records, refuted Smith’s claims in an interview with the BBC. “No, this is not true at all. He does not hold the GWR title, and that is not our certificate,” she stated. The official record for the longest cooking marathon (individual) is 119 hours, 57 minutes, and 16 seconds, achieved by Alan Fisher of Ireland in Matsue, Shimane, Japan, from September 28 to October 3, 2023.

Podium News notes that Irish chef Alan Fisher currently holds the legitimate record, having surpassed Nigerian chef Hilda Baci’s previous mark.
