Meta has announced that starting July 1, 2024, content creators in Nigeria and Ghana with at least 5,000 followers will be able to earn money on Facebook through new monetization features.

The announcement introduces In-Stream Ads and Facebook Ads on Reels, designed to enable creators to generate revenue from their videos and build their communities.

In a statement, Meta highlighted that eligible creators can monetize their video and reel content, with support available in over 30 languages globally. “To use either product, creators must pass and remain compliant with Facebook’s partnership and content monetization policies and must be at least 18 years old. Additionally, for in-stream ads, creators must meet certain requirements such as having a minimum of 5,000 followers,” the statement read.

Moon Baz, Meta’s Global Partnerships Lead for Africa, the Middle East, and Turkey, expressed enthusiasm about the rollout: “Every day, we’re inspired by the incredible African creators who use Facebook to tell their stories, connect with others, and bring people together. This expansion will empower eligible creators in the vibrant creative industry across Nigeria and Ghana to earn money, while setting the bar high for creativity across the world.”

Meta explained that In-Stream Ads can appear before, during, or after on-demand videos, including pre-recorded content or recordings of live streams. These ads can take various forms such as Pre-roll Ads, Mid-roll Ads, Image Ads, and Post-roll Ads. Ads on Facebook Reels will be integrated into original Reels, allowing creators to earn based on the performance of their content.
