On Friday evening, 103 Nigerians deported from Turkey arrived at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja. The group landed at about 6:45 p.m. on a Southwind Airlines flight, registration number TC-GRB, and was received at the pilgrims’ wing of the airport by various government agencies.
Representatives from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Department of State Services (DSS), and military personnel were present to receive the deportees.
Details surrounding the deportations remain unclear, including whether the individuals committed any offenses in Turkey. The deportees, visibly frustrated, claimed they were unjustly treated by Turkish authorities, reporting that they had been detained for over 11 months prior to their deportation. They have urged the Nigerian government to intervene and help them recover their valuables left behind in Turkey.
