Ipswich Town have confirmed the permanent signing of Nigerian striker Chuba Akpom from Ajax Amsterdam, with the deal set to take effect on July 1, 2026. The 30-year-old forward put pen to paper on a three-year contract that will keep him at Portman Road until June 2029.
The move was triggered after Ipswich secured promotion to the Premier League during the 2025/26 Championship season.
Akpom spent last season on loan at the club, making 30 to 31 appearances and scoring twice, including a goal in a 3-0 win over Oxford United on New Year’s Day that helped cement Ipswich’s promotion.
The permanent transfer activates a mandatory purchase clause reportedly worth around £7m-£8m, ending Akpom’s three-year spell at Ajax where he scored 23 goals in 68 appearances.
Ipswich manager Kieran McKenna described the signing as part of the club’s preparation for life in the Premier League after a 22-year absence from the top flight.
