The United Nations has reopened its office in Khartoum, Sudan’s capital, after nearly three years of closure due to the outbreak of conflict in the country.

The move marks a gradual return of UN operations to the city, with agencies beginning to resume activities as part of broader recovery and stabilisation efforts.

Officials described the reopening as a significant step toward renewed international engagement and cooperation with Sudanese authorities.

The organisation had previously scaled down its presence in Khartoum following the eruption of violence, maintaining only limited operations in safer regions.

With its return, the UN is expected to strengthen humanitarian assistance, support rebuilding efforts, and help restore essential services affected by the prolonged crisis.

Sudan continues to face major humanitarian challenges, and the renewed presence of the UN in the capital is seen as a critical step in addressing the ongoing situation.
