Chelsea Football Club has recorded the biggest pre-tax loss in the history of the English Premier League, posting a deficit of £262.4 million for the 2024–25 financial year.
The figure surpasses the previous record of £197.5 million set by Manchester City during the 2010–11 season, marking a new financial low for a Premier League club.
Despite the massive loss, the club reported strong revenue of about £490.9 million, driven by broadcasting income and participation in major competitions, including the Club World Cup.
Club officials attributed the losses largely to a sharp increase in operating costs during the season, alongside continued heavy spending linked to squad development and overall club operations.
The financial result represents a significant reversal from the previous year, when the club recorded a profit, partly boosted by internal asset sales.
Despite the record losses, Chelsea maintains that it remains compliant with financial regulations governing spending and sustainability in the league.
