Senegal’s victory in the final over Morocco secured them the championship title and set the stage for the individual accolades. The Lions of Teranga won their second AFCON crown through a narrow 1-0 win in extra time, courtesy of a decisive goal from Pape Gueye. The match, however, was noted for its controversial moments.
The prestigious Player of the Tournament award, also known as the Golden Ball, was claimed by Senegal’s Sadio Mané.
His leadership and consistent, high-level performances throughout the competition made him the standout figure and a driving force behind his nation’s success.
Morocco’s exceptional goalkeeper, Yassine Bounou, was honored as the tournament’s Best Goalkeeper for his brilliant displays. His efforts were crucial in taking his team to the final.
Another Moroccan star, Brahim Díaz, captured the Golden Boot as the top scorer with five goals, setting a new record by scoring in five consecutive matches during a single AFCON tournament.
Despite the disappointment of losing the final, the Moroccan national team was also recognized for their conduct, receiving the Fair Play Award for their exemplary sportsmanship and respect shown towards opponents and officials.
