Eight students of the University of Jos have died following a tragic road crash in the early hours of Thursday, December 11, 2025, in the state capital. The accident, which involved a trailer and a bus, occurred opposite Unity Bank on Zaria Road in Jos. According to official reports, the bus was carrying eleven male students from the university.

Eyewitness accounts and a statement from the Federal Road Safety Corps confirm that seven of the students were pronounced dead at the scene by a doctor. Another victim succumbed to injuries after being taken to a hospital, bringing the total death toll to eight. The remaining three students are currently receiving treatment in the hospital, and all victims involved in the crash are reported to be male.

Preliminary information from witnesses and the FRSC suggests that the bus was speeding and engaged in wrongful overtaking, which caused the driver to lose control and collide with the trailer. The Public Education Officer of the FRSC in Plateau State, Peter Longsan, formally confirmed the details of the incident, providing the timeline and casualty figures.

In reaction to the tragedy, the FRSC Sector Commander for Plateau State, Olajide Mogaji, issued a safety advisory. He urged all motorists, especially commercial drivers, to avoid night trips, excessive speed, dangerous driving, and operating vehicles while fatigued or unwell, citing these as major causes of fatal crashes. He reminded the public that the FRSC emergency toll-free line 122 is available to report crashes and other road emergencies.
