Leaders and residents of Idiroko, a border town in Ogun State, have called for an end to attacks on Oro worshippers amid rising religious tensions in the area.

The calls come after allegations emerged of Oro worshippers breaching a court order that had restricted Oro festival rituals to certain hours between midnight and 4 a.m.

The community expressed concerns about a brewing religious crisis, warning that continuous attacks and confrontations could escalate tensions further.

The League of Imams and Alfas in Ogun State had previously accused Oro worshippers of violating the court’s directives, contributing to friction between different religious groups.

Justice S. M. Owodunni, who delivered the ruling, emphasized that the Oro festival rituals must adhere strictly to the time restrictions to maintain peace. However, the accusation of non-compliance by the Oro worshippers has deepened mistrust in the community.

Residents of Idiroko and other affected areas have urged all parties involved to respect the court’s guidelines and ensure peaceful coexistence. They warned against actions that could ignite religious conflict, calling instead for dialogue and mutual respect to foster harmony.

The situation highlights ongoing challenges in balancing cultural traditions and religious sensitivities in Ogun State. Community leaders and stakeholders continue to seek peaceful solutions to prevent further violence and maintain social stability.
