Independent fuel marketers in Nigeria have started receiving free petroleum product deliveries from Dangote Refinery, thanks to the deployment of compressed natural gas (CNG)-powered trucks aimed at cutting distribution costs and stabilizing pump prices.

Abubakar Shettima, the president of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), confirmed that marketers in Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, and other South-West states have already begun benefiting from free deliveries, with trucks actively distributing products in the Western Zone.

Earlier in September, Dangote Refinery rolled out over 1,000 CNG-powered trucks, part of a larger fleet of 4,000 vehicles ordered from China. The initial rollout, which was delayed due to shipping bottlenecks, is set to be completed with the remaining trucks arriving before October.

Shettima emphasized that only registered marketers can access this logistics-free supply, with registration ongoing via an online portal. The initiative is already impacting fuel prices, with pump prices reportedly falling from 865 naira per litre to about 841 naira in areas where Dangote’s deliveries have reached. Some filling stations, including those operated by MRS, have adjusted their prices accordingly.

This distribution scheme is part of a broader strategy to enhance energy efficiency, promote sustainability, and strengthen Nigeria’s downstream petroleum sector by improving the availability and affordability of fuel nationwide.
