The Yoruba Council Worldwide (YCW), an umbrella body for Yoruba indigenous people, has called for peace between the Alaafin of Oyo and the Ooni of Ife, two revered pillars of Yoruba heritage.
In a statement issued by YCW’s Publicity Secretary, Mr. Charles Adeyemi, the group described both monarchs as sacred custodians of Yoruba history, dignity, and culture.
YCW emphasized the need for calm reflection and unity rather than division, which runs contrary to the Yoruba people’s best interests.
The council appealed to Yoruba elders, statesmen, and cultural custodians to mediate constructively and help forge lasting peace that honors the dignity of both royal stools.
It also urged Yoruba sons and daughters, especially influential voices on social media, to avoid speaking ill of the monarchs and instead become advocates for peace, understanding, and reconciliation.
According to YCW, the Alaafin and Ooni are eternal symbols of Yoruba civilization, and their unity is essential not only for cultural preservation but also for the collective dignity of the Yoruba nation on the global stage.
While awaiting the convocation of the Yoruba Obas Conference to foster a peace pact in Yoruba land, YCW called on both parties to embrace peace with respect, patience, and wisdom to resolve differences for the benefit of future generations.
The group reaffirmed its commitment to fostering dialogue, unity, and cultural pride among Yoruba people under the leadership of their Global President, Aare Oladotun Hassan.
