Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Rema secured two major victories at the 2024 ASCAP London Music Awards while making a splash at Louis Vuitton’s Men’s Spring-Summer Show in Paris on Tuesday. His international hit, “Calm Down,” was honored with both the Song of the Year and Top Streaming Song awards.
The song’s success also recognized its co-writers and producers, Michael Hunter, also known as London, and Andre Vibez. These accolades increase Rema’s total ASCAP awards to three, making him the most decorated Nigerian or African artist in the award’s history.
In 2024 alone, Rema has amassed six major awards, including the Trends Award in Brazil, an iHeartRadio Music Award, an ASCAP Pop Music Award, and two ASCAP London Music Awards. “Calm Down” recently set a milestone as the first Afrobeats track to surpass 1 billion on-demand streams in the US.
