In a recent development, the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCom) successfully rescued two Nigerian girls who were trafficked to Ghana for prostitution. NIDCom Chairman, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, affirmed this in a statement released by the commission’s Director of Media, Public Relations, and Protocols Unit, Abdur-Rahman Balogun.
Dabiri-Erewa stated, “The two girls, whose rescue operation was facilitated by the Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation (NIDO) Ghana, are currently in safe custody.” She emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts in combating human trafficking, labeling it as a modern-day form of slavery.
One of the rescued girls is from Edo State, while the other is from Lagos but both currently reside in Lagos State. Plans are being made to repatriate them to Nigeria and hand them over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP).
