Former Senate President Bukola Saraki has reacted to President Bola Tinubu’s remarks about the internal crisis within Nigeria’s opposition parties, particularly the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Speaking after the Democracy Day commemoration at the National Assembly, Tinubu had expressed pleasure at the opposition’s disarray and stated he would not assist them in resolving their issues.
In response, Saraki acknowledged the challenges facing the PDP but emphasized the need for opposition parties to take responsibility for their own rebuilding. “I think we must take him at his words. He said he’s not for a one-party state, so we must take him at his word and recognize that he supports a multi-party system,” Saraki said.
He added, “That’s why we are going around and bringing everybody to come around. Those who say they are under pressure, there is no pressure anymore. We’re all for multi-party, and everybody should get their house in order. As he said, he’s not going to help us, so we are going to sort our own house again.”
Saraki’s remarks underscore the opposition’s resolve to address internal divisions independently amid a political landscape dominated by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
