The family of late Nigerian musician Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has called for a re-evaluation of his toxicology test results following the recent declaration of the findings as inconclusive. The family has expressed dissatisfaction with the investigation process and urged for transparency and adherence to the highest forensic standards.

During a virtual press conference, the family’s legal representatives, Wahab Shittu and Taiwo Odumosu, criticized the handling of the investigation. “We express our profound dissatisfaction and disappointment with the recent announcement regarding the toxicology test results of the late Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, which have been declared ‘inconclusive’ by the pathologist,” stated Shittu. “This outcome is entirely unacceptable and raises serious concerns about the integrity and thoroughness of the investigation by the police and the medical team into the untimely death of their beloved son, brother, and friend.”

The legal team questioned the legitimacy of the toxicology test, highlighting discrepancies involving the supposed involvement of a United States laboratory. “We are puzzled by how the letterhead and address of the National Medical Services Laboratories in Pennsylvania, USA, appeared on the toxicology test report if the test was not truly conducted there,” Odumosu added. “The conflict of interest and lack of clarity impugn the integrity of the results.”

The family demanded a thorough review of the procedures and protocols followed during the initial toxicology testing. They also called for the involvement of independent international forensic experts to validate the re-examination process and ensure all possible avenues are explored. “Transparency is crucial to understanding the cause of death and dispelling any doubts or suspicions,” Shittu emphasized.

The family urged the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to personally intervene in the investigation and ensure that those responsible for Mohbad’s death are brought to justice. “The investigation so far conducted does not show the thoroughness and professionalism expected in a murder case of this nature,” said Shittu. “We call on the Inspector General of Police to personally intervene in this investigation and bring the perpetrators to book.”

Mohbad, who passed away on September 12, 2023, at the age of 27, remains a subject of public interest. The Aloba family insists that they deserve clear and definitive answers regarding the cause of his death. “The current ‘inconclusive’ results only serve to prolong their agony and uncertainty, which is both unfair and unjust,” Shittu concluded.

The family also appealed to the presiding magistrate of the Coroner’s Inquest to ensure that an independent toxicology report is submitted before the final report is made available to the authorities.
