Napoli forward Victor Osimhen has publicly rebutted claims by former Super Eagles head coach Finidi George regarding his commitment to the national team. The controversy arose after Osimhen missed Nigeria’s recent 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin Republic due to injury.
Finidi George suggested that Osimhen could have participated despite his injury. In response, Osimhen took to Instagram to clarify his position. “I asked Finidi George to allow me to stay with the players in the camp, but Finidi asked me not to bother and to stay with my family,” Osimhen wrote.
He expressed frustration over being scapegoated for Nigeria’s poor performances. “Now after two bad games, everybody is blaming me. I know how many injuries I’ve played with for Nigeria, and I played my heart out, but after two bad games, everybody is attacking me.”
Finidi George resigned from his role as Super Eagles head coach on Saturday, amidst the ongoing discussions about the team’s recent struggles.
