President Bola Tinubu of Nigeria, alongside First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu, led the nation in celebrating Nigeria’s 25th Democracy Day anniversary at Eagles Square in Abuja on Wednesday, June 12, 2024.

Arriving at 10:03 a.m., President Tinubu was greeted by Vice President Kashim Shettima and other dignitaries. He took the salute from the Commander of the Brigade of Guards and stood for the National Anthem at the saluting dais. Following this, he conducted an inspection of the troops in an open-roof parade vehicle, greeting citizens gathered to celebrate the occasion.

The ceremony featured a colorful parade involving the Guards Brigade, personnel from the Nigerian Navy and Air Force, and elements of the Nigerian Police Force. These units provided a military display and entertained dignitaries, including members of the diplomatic corps.

Despite June 12 being declared a public holiday, many guests attended the event, dressed in vibrant traditional attire to witness the celebrations marking the restoration of democracy in 1999.

In addition to President Tinubu, other senior officials present included Vice President Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume, and members of the Federal Executive Council.
