Media mogul Oprah Winfrey is recuperating after a stomach virus sent her to the emergency room.
Winfrey’s representative confirmed on Tuesday that she received IV treatment for dehydration as advised by her doctor. “Ms. Winfrey is recovering following a stomach virus and received an IV due to dehydration at the recommendation of her doctor,” the representative stated. “She is resting and feeling better every day.”
In a video call with her friend, journalist Gayle King, shared on King’s Instagram page, Winfrey described her ordeal, saying she “couldn’t keep enough water down to keep hydrated,” prompting her hospital visit. King noted Winfrey appeared “weakish,” to which Winfrey agreed she was not yet fully recovered but added, “I’m on my way.”
Winfrey mentioned that several household members also contracted the virus and advised viewers to maintain good hygiene practices.
Due to her illness, Winfrey missed a scheduled appearance on “CBS Mornings” where she was set to discuss her latest book club selection, “Familiaris” by David Wroblewski, with King and the author.
