Aminu Jaji, a member of the House of Representatives from Zamfara State, has issued a chilling account of the worsening insecurity in his constituency, revealing that bandits have resorted to feeding newborn babies to their dogs. Speaking at the National Assembly, Jaji described how a pregnant woman abducted by bandits gave birth in captivity, only for her twin babies to be thrown to and devoured by the gang leader’s dogs.
Jaji lamented the dire situation in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area, where over 200 attacks have been recorded, including mass kidnappings and killings. He recounted a recent incident where 60 people were abducted in Banga, with kidnappers demanding a ransom of 30 million naira; ten hostages were killed after the community failed to meet the ransom demand.
The lawmaker expressed deep frustration over the lack of effective federal response despite numerous appeals to security agencies. He emphasized that many communities have been abandoned, with residents unable to farm or trade, and thousands internally displaced without recognition or support from government authorities.
Highlighting the collapse of governance in parts of Zamfara, Jaji called on political and religious leaders to unite beyond partisan interests to address what he termed a national emergency. He warned that if insecurity is not urgently tackled, it could spread and destabilize the entire nation.
Jaji also rejected calls for hiring mercenaries, insisting that Nigeria’s armed forces have the capacity to secure the country if properly equipped and motivated. He advocated for the adoption of technology and improved welfare for security personnel to enhance their effectiveness.
The lawmaker’s harrowing testimony underscores the brutal reality faced by many Nigerians in the North-West and serves as a stark call for urgent and coordinated action to restore peace and security.
