The Nigerian Senate has approved a supplementary budget of N98.5 billion for the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) for 2024.

The decision was announced by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during today’s plenary session, following the consideration and adoption of the report by the Committee on FCT, presented by Sen. Mohammed Ibrahim of Yobe South.

The approval follows the House of Representatives’ earlier passage of the bill last week. President Bola Tinubu had submitted the supplementary budget proposal to Parliament, highlighting the necessity of these funds to address critical infrastructure gaps in Abuja that were not included in the 2024 national budget.

During the session, Sen. Ireti Kingibe raised a point of order, expressing concerns over her exclusion from the committee’s activities, despite being a member. Senate President Akpabio acknowledged her complaint and recommended that she formally present her grievances to the Senate through a motion.

It was previously reported the bill’s introduction by President Tinubu, who underscored its importance for improving the nation’s capital infrastructure.
