The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has clarified that it cannot implement a certified drug integrity test for prospective corps members without official government approval. The clarification follows a request by the Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brigadier General Buba Marwa.

NYSC Acting Director, Caroline Embu, stated that the agency’s enabling Act does not provide the legal framework for drug testing. NYSC Director General, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, emphasized that any such initiative would require formal government policy adoption.

The NYSC and NDLEA are drafting a Memorandum of Understanding to formalize their collaboration, which includes deploying corps members to support NDLEA’s counseling and rehabilitation centers. This partnership aims to address drug-related challenges and involve young people in meaningful community service.
