The Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU) in Bauchi State has taken decisive action against one of its lecturers, Dr. Usman Aliyu, dismissing him from service due to sexual harassment allegations.
According to the university’s Director of Information and Public Relations, Zailani Bappa, the dismissal followed a thorough investigation and confirmation of Dr. Aliyu’s guilt by the Senior Staff Disciplinary Committee.
The allegations centered around the harassment of a married female postgraduate student in the Department of Chemical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering and Engineering Technology.
The Governing Council of the university, during its 96th regular meeting on April 11, 2025, approved the dismissal based on the findings, citing a breach of the Senior Staff Conditions of Service.
As part of the dismissal process, Dr. Aliyu has been instructed to return all university property in his possession, including handing over to his Head of Department and returning his identification card to the Chief Security Officer.
This action underscores the institution’s commitment to maintaining a safe and respectful environment for all students and staff, emphasizing zero tolerance for any form of harassment.
