A newly emerged terrorist group, Mahmuda, has escalated violent attacks across communities in Kwara and Niger States, with fresh assaults reported in Baruten and Kaiama local government areas of Kwara State on Sunday night.

The group, which reportedly killed several vigilantes in Kwara last Friday, targeted villages in Ilesha Baruba and Kemaanji during the latest attacks. While details of casualties remain unclear, the incidents mark a concerning expansion of the group’s operations in Nigeria’s North Central region.

Security agencies have yet to issue official statements regarding the new wave of violence attributed to the previously unknown faction. Local sources indicate the attacks follow similar patterns to extremist operations in neighboring states, though the group’s precise affiliations and motives remain unconfirmed.

The emergence of Mahmuda compounds security challenges in the region, already grappling with banditry and farmer-herder conflicts. Authorities face mounting pressure to contain the threat before further spillover into vulnerable communities.
