The Kogi State Police Command has begun an investigation into an overnight attack on the family residence of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan in Obeiba-Ihima, Okehi Local Government Area.

Police Public Relations Officer SP William Aya confirmed the incident in a statement on Friday, revealing that three armed assailants vandalized the property in the early hours of April 16. According to the report, the attackers attempted to break into the house using cutlasses but fled when an occupant raised an alarm.

“The Commissioner of Police has directed a thorough, discrete investigation to apprehend the perpetrators,” Aya stated.

While the motive remains unclear, aides to the senator have pointed fingers at Senate President Godswill Akpabio, alleging retaliation for Akpoti-Uduaghan’s recent sexual harassment allegations against him.

“The attack was clearly targeted at the Senator, who was fortunately not present,” said Chief Press Secretary Israel Arogbonlo, demanding the reinstatement of her withdrawn security detail.

In her account, the lawmaker disclosed that gunmen struck after mistaking visiting contractors for her entourage. “Community vigilantes and security forces repelled them without casualties,” she noted.

The incident has drawn condemnation from civil society groups, with the Human Rights Writers Association (HURIWA) labeling it an assassination attempt and Kogi Central Youth Forum calling for swift justice.

Authorities have yet to identify suspects as investigations continue.
