Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar today led a distinguished political delegation to visit ex-President Muhammadu Buhari at his residence in Kaduna, in what observers describe as a significant convergence of Nigeria’s political heavyweights.

The high-profile visit included former Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal and immediate-past Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai, marking their first public appearance together since the 2023 elections. Footage shared by Atiku showed the politicians engaged in warm discussions with the former president.

In a social media post, the PDP’s 2023 presidential candidate revealed details of the meeting: “His Excellency entertained us with his characteristic wit – I laughed till my ribs ached.” Atiku explained the visit served dual purposes as both a post-Sallah courtesy call and opportunity to discuss national issues with his former opponent.

Political analysts note the gathering’s timing coincides with growing realignments ahead of the 2027 elections, particularly as El-Rufai recently defected from the APC to SDP. The meeting lasted several hours behind closed doors, with sources suggesting discussions touched on Nigeria’s economic challenges and regional security concerns.

This marks Atiku’s first known visit to Buhari since the 2023 transition, fueling speculation about potential opposition coalition-building. Neither party disclosed the full agenda, but the rare assembly of these political figures from different parties has ignited debate about possible realignments in Nigeria’s political landscape.
