The Presidency has issued an apology for inaccuracies in a recently released list of President Bola Tinubu’s appointees, which was meant to counter claims of lopsided appointments favoring his South-West region.
The list, published to address criticisms from opposition figures and even ruling party members like Senator Ali Ndume, showed 29 appointees from the South-West, 35 from the North-West, 22 from the South-South, 16 from the South-East, 25 from the North-Central, and 24 from the North-East. However, it notably excluded key figures such as Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, further fueling allegations of regional bias.
Presidential spokesman Sunday Dare acknowledged the errors in a post on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “We have noticed a number of errors in the list of appointments tweeted. We are sorry. We will provide an updated list later.”
The controversy comes amid growing scrutiny over federal character compliance in Tinubu’s administration, with critics pointing to the South-East’s underrepresentation. The Presidency has yet to clarify why Gbajabiamila and other prominent appointees were omitted from the initial list.
