Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has issued a stark warning about Nigeria’s deteriorating condition, calling on citizens to boldly confront the country’s challenges without fear. Addressing party members at the Labour Party’s National Executive Council meeting in Abuja, the opposition leader painted a grim picture of Nigeria’s current state.
“Nigeria is collapsing before our eyes,” Obi declared. “The evidence is undeniable – poverty spreads daily while our institutions weaken. Those who remained silent in the past achieved nothing. Now is not the time for fear.”
The 2023 presidential contender emphasized the need for internal party unity while positioning Labour as a viable alternative for future elections. “We’re building an inclusive political family that fields competent candidates at all levels – from House of Representatives to Presidency,” he stated.
Obi’s remarks come amid growing economic hardship and political tensions nationwide. The former Anambra governor stressed that future Labour Party candidates must demonstrate both commitment and competence, moving beyond the party’s previous selection mistakes. His speech signals Labour’s preparation for upcoming electoral contests while capitalizing on discontent with the current administration’s performance.
