In a shocking incident, operatives from the Zone 2 Command of the Nigeria Police Force have apprehended a woman, whose identity remains undisclosed, along with an accomplice for allegedly trafficking young girls to Mauritania as commercial sex workers for a fee of N50,000.

The arrest took place on March 22 at their hideout in the Meiran area of Lagos State. Zonal Public Relations Officer, Umma Ayuba, revealed in a statement on Tuesday that the suspects were part of a larger syndicate that collaborated with accomplices in Mauritania to exploit young women.

Upon their arrest and subsequent interrogation, the suspects confessed to their involvement in the crime. Ayuba indicated that the operatives from the Zonal Intelligence Response Squad, led by SP Francis Kpoughul, conducted the operation that led to the capture of the two suspects.

One of the suspects disclosed that she had been introduced to a woman based in Mauritania by another individual who has already been prosecuted and is currently serving a prison sentence for similar offenses. The first suspect admitted to receiving N50,000 for each victim she trafficked, including her own 19-year-old daughter.
