Suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has called on Nigerians to hold Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, and former Governor Yahaya Bello responsible for any violence that may occur during her Sallah visit to Kogi Central today.
This comes after the Kogi State Government banned political rallies and unauthorized public gatherings, with the Chairman of Okehi Local Government Area, Amoka Monday, imposing a curfew across the council. The local government cited security concerns as the reason for the restriction.
In a Facebook post, Akpoti-Uduaghan reassured her constituents of a peaceful celebration while warning of potential infiltration by violent elements.
“My dear people of Kogi Central, I look forward to our peaceful Sallah celebrations today. However, should we be met with or infiltrated by violence, Nigerians should hold Gov Ododo, Yahaya Bello, & SP Godswill Akpabio wholly responsible,” she wrote.
Despite the security warnings, Akpoti-Uduaghan’s media team confirmed that the Sallah visit would proceed as planned.
“Despite rumours circulating online, there has been no official announcement from our office regarding the cancellation of this visit,” the statement read.
“As the senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan remains committed to engaging with her community and fostering a spirit of unity and cooperation. Her dedication to the people of Kogi Central is unwavering, and she looks forward to celebrating Eid-el-Fitr with her constituents.”
The statement further assured that necessary arrangements had been made to ensure a successful and joyous event while urging community members to participate.
This development follows growing political tensions in Kogi State, where Akpoti-Uduaghan was recently suspended from the Senate and is facing a potential recall. Authorities have previously warned against public gatherings, citing security risks.
