Former Rivers State Head of Service, George Nwaeke, has dismissed claims by his wife, Florence, that he was kidnapped, stating that she was given a script to read.
In a video released on Saturday, Nwaeke clarified that he voluntarily traveled to Abuja to report himself to security agencies amid recent political tensions in Rivers State.
“I am in TRANSCORP Abuja. I arrived this morning from Port Harcourt to meet security agencies and report myself, as well as the troubling events happening in Rivers State. I resigned as Head of Service on Monday because of these developments,” he stated.
Addressing his wife’s claims, Nwaeke insisted that she had been misinformed. “I just saw a video of my wife trending. She was told I had been kidnapped and given a script to read. I want to make it clear—I am not kidnapped. I am in Abuja, working,” he said.
Florence Nwaeke, in an emotional appeal on Friday, had expressed concerns about her husband’s safety after his resignation, saying she found an online interview of him suspicious. She claimed that after he confirmed his arrival in Abuja, he stopped responding to her messages.
Her alarm followed George Nwaeke’s public allegations that Governor Siminalayi Fubara ordered the 2023 bombing of the Rivers State House of Assembly to prevent his impeachment. He also accused Edison Ehie, the former Assembly leader and now Fubara’s Chief of Staff, of receiving a bag of money to orchestrate the attack.
