Canada’s Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has announced that, effective March 25, 2025, Express Entry candidates will no longer receive additional Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) points for job offers.

Previously, candidates could earn up to 200 points for senior management roles and 50 points for other skilled jobs, significantly boosting their chances of receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residency. However, under the new policy, while job offers will still be relevant for certain immigration programs, they will no longer contribute extra CRS points.

The IRCC has described this as a “temporary measure” but has not indicated if or when the points will be reinstated. Although no official reasons were given, possible factors behind the decision include a shift in immigration priorities toward education, language proficiency, and work experience, concerns about the authenticity of job offers, and changing labor market demands.

For current Express Entry candidates who relied on job offer points, this change will immediately impact their CRS scores. Future applicants will need to focus on other factors—such as improving language proficiency, gaining Canadian work experience, securing a provincial nomination, or leveraging a spouse’s profile—to remain competitive in the immigration process.

Applicants who have already received ITAs will not be affected by this policy change.
