The community of Ungwan Maigero in the Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State Nigeria is in turmoil as the family of Mr. and Mrs. Saul Hashimu mourns the loss of their 13-year-old son, Wisdom.
The family is demanding justice following the tragic death of Wisdom, allegedly resulting from brutality by a soldier and members of the civilian Joint Task Force (JTF) in the area.
In a heart-wrenching turn of events, Wisdom, a student preparing for his Junior Secondary School examinations, was falsely accused of theft and subjected to severe beatings by a soldier and civilian JTF members. The situation escalated when Wisdom was found dead by suicide in their compound on Friday, June 6, 2024.
Expressing the family’s anguish, Wisdom’s father shared, “On June 1, 2024, my son was mercilessly beaten by a soldier and civilian JTF members, leaving him in a critical condition. The events that followed led to the tragic loss of our beloved son, who took his own life on June 6, 2024.”
The family’s lawyer, advocating for justice, stated, “The alleged brutality suffered by Wisdom at the hands of a soldier and the civilian JTF is a grave injustice that cannot go unanswered. We demand a thorough investigation to uncover the truth and ensure that those responsible face the full weight of the law.”
Meanwhile, the Kaduna State Police Command disclosed that it was aware of the incident, and has started full investigation into it to ensure that justice is served and those behind Wisdom’s death are apprehended and prosecuted accordingly to the law.
