A fresh outbreak of violence between the Ifon and Ilobu communities in Osun State, Nigeria, has reportedly left more than 30 people injured, with several homes and shops set ablaze. Many residents, including women and children, have been displaced as the long-standing land dispute between the two communities escalates once again.

According to sources, the conflict, which reignited in the early hours of Friday, has seen attacks in various villages and disputed areas. Social media videos circulating online show members of the Concerned Youth of Ifon Osun, Orolu Kingdom decrying the destruction of their properties.

“We can’t continue to watch as Ilobu people burn our shops and homes at midnight,” the group said in a statement. “We call on the Osun State Government to take immediate action. We have endured these attacks for too long.”

The group also noted that their traditional ruler, Oba Peter Oluwole Ipadeola Ilufemiloye Akinyooiye III, Olufon of Ifon Osun Orolu Kingdom, has urged restraint despite the ongoing aggression. However, they warned that continued violence against their people and destruction of farmlands could push them beyond their limits.

In response, Chief Leke Ogunsola, the Otun Jagun of Ilobu, denied any attacks by Ilobu residents. He instead accused Ifon youths of initiating the violence, claiming they had been targeting farmers since Tuesday.

“They attacked our people on their farmlands, attempted to kidnap a chief, and burned motorcycles. On Thursday, they destroyed homes in Oke-Ekutu and attacked several other areas, setting buildings on fire and shooting at our people,” Ogunsola alleged.

He added that many children and women had been caught in the attack, with over 30 wounded victims being treated at the palace through traditional means.

When contacted, Osun Police spokesperson Akeem Adeoye stated that the police would provide further updates soon.

This latest clash marks yet another chapter in the protracted Ifon-Ilobu land dispute, which has seen repeated outbreaks of violence despite past government interventions.
