The House of Representatives in Nigeria has passed for third reading four key tax reform bills, despite opposition from various stakeholders, including Northern leaders and the Nigeria Governors Forum.

The bills, sent to the National Assembly in October 2024, include the Nigeria Tax Bill 2024, the Nigeria Tax Administration Bill 2024, the Nigeria Revenue Service Bill 2024, and the Joint Revenue Board Tax Bill 2024.

During a plenary session on Tuesday, lawmakers approved the report presented by the House Committee on Finance after considering input from the public. However, the bills have sparked widespread controversy, with some critics arguing that certain provisions could negatively impact businesses and state revenue structures.
