South African singer Tyla Laura Seethal, popularly known as Tyla, has made history at the 2025 iHeartRadio Music Awards, clinching the first-ever World Artist of the Year award.

The 23-year-old sensation emerged victorious over Nigerian music heavyweights Burna Boy and Tems, as well as Central Cee and YG Marley, in the highly competitive category. The award ceremony, held at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on Monday, March 17, recognized Tyla’s meteoric rise in the global music industry.

Best known for her chart-topping hit Water, Tyla’s victory at the iHeartRadio Awards adds to her string of recent accomplishments, including a Grammy win for Best African Music Performance. Her breakthrough single dominated the Billboard U.S. Afrobeats Chart, received multiple platinum certifications, and even featured a remix with rap superstar Travis Scott.

Major Highlights from the iHeartRadio Music Awards 2025

Apart from Tyla’s historic win, the iHeartRadio Music Awards celebrated several industry giants.

Taylor Swift secured Artist of the Year and was honored for her record-breaking Eras Tour, dubbed Tour of the Century. While, Mariah Carey received the prestigious iHeartRadio Icon Award.

Lady Gaga was recognized with the Innovator Award for her groundbreaking contributions to music, while Sabrina Carpenter won Pop Artist of the Year, while GloRilla took home Hip-Hop Artist of the Year.

Also, Teddy Swims was named Best New Artist (Pop), and Muni Long’s “Made for Me” won R&B Song of the Year.
