Popular Nigerian crossdresser James Brown has announced a temporary return to his male identity, citing financial difficulties as the reason. The social media personality made the revelation on his Instagram page on Friday while seeking financial assistance from fans and followers.
“Many people have been asking, ‘James, is it true you need help?’ I actually do. I need all the ads and promotions. In fact, I have turned to a boy right now,” he stated.
Brown also expressed his desire to further his education, disclosing that he requires approximately ₦30 million for tuition alone, excluding living expenses and other costs. “I have reached out to some friends. If you want to support, nothing is too small,” he added.
In a follow-up post, he urged people not to mock his situation, writing, “Don’t laugh at someone who is trying to put everything together to go back to school.”
His plea has sparked mixed reactions online. While some encouraged his academic aspirations, others questioned the necessity of studying abroad. “You can school here in Nigeria; we have good schools. Why spend over ₦50 million just to school in the UK?” an Instagram user, Lorlah, commented. Another user, Kween Mimi, echoed similar sentiments, advising him to “cut your coat according to your size” and consider local universities like UNILAG or UNIBEN.
Some responses were more critical. One user, Treasure Daniel, reacted to Brown’s statement about reverting to his male identity with surprise, asking, “You’ve turned into a boy? What were you before?” Others, like Fleaky Susan, advised him to find alternative means of survival. “Go and hustle like the man you are,” she wrote.
