Troops escorting the convoy of Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, successfully thwarted an attempted Boko Haram ambush along the Buni Gari-Buni Yadi road on Wednesday, March 12.

According to reports by Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication, an unspecified number of terrorists were neutralized in the ensuing gun battle, while seven abducted travelers were rescued.

Sources revealed that the convoy, comprising troops from Operation Hadin Kai, the Police Crack Team, and senior government officials, was returning from Biu Local Government Area when the attackers struck, attempting to seize travelers in a Volkswagen vehicle.

The security forces responded swiftly, engaging the insurgents in a fierce exchange of fire, ultimately forcing them to abandon their captives.

Governor Zulum was not in the convoy at the time, having traveled by helicopter earlier in the day.

Despite the confrontation, all security personnel and government officials emerged unscathed. The troops also recovered weapons and motorcycles left behind by the fleeing insurgents.
