At least 10 teenage Nigerian girls, aged between 15 and 16, have been rescued from a trafficking ring in Ghana, where they were being forced into prostitution. The Chairman of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, confirmed the rescue in a video posted on her verified social media account.

The girls were saved following a tip-off by NIDO, the umbrella organization of Nigerians living in Ghana and an arm of NiDCOM. Shockingly, three of the victims are siblings from the same parents. One of the victims revealed that the suspect exploited them for sex without compensating them and confiscated their phones, preventing them from contacting their families.

The perpetrator, a Nigerian man who remains unidentified, has been apprehended for his heinous acts of molesting and trafficking the victims, as stated by the Chairman of NIDO, Chief Callistus, in the viral video.

Some of the rescued girls hailed from Imo and Plateau states in Nigeria and were below the legal adult age. In the video, one of the girls implicated her brother in luring them to Ghana for prostitution. When asked about their ordeal, one of the girls disclosed, “They give us out to men, and they don’t give us money; they collect everything.”

This shocking incident sheds light on the dark reality of human trafficking and exploitation, emphasizing the urgent need for collaborative efforts to combat such crimes and protect vulnerable individuals.
