The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to Governor Siminalayi Fubara, demanding his resignation or face impeachment by the State House of Assembly.
APC Chairman in the state, Chief Tony Okocha, made the declaration on Monday while addressing journalists at his residence in Port Harcourt. Okocha accused Fubara of disrespecting President Bola Tinubu, particularly in his handling of the ongoing political crisis in the state.
“As a political party, we are today advising the governor to either resign honorably or be impeached. He has disrespected Mr. President, and we cannot stand by and watch him do so,” Okocha stated.
He further asserted that the Supreme Court had provided sufficient grounds for the governor’s removal, eliminating the need for further investigations by the Assembly.
“Forty-eight hours is too much. He should just resign honorably,” the APC chairman insisted.
The political crisis in Rivers State has intensified in recent months, with tensions escalating between Governor Fubara and the state legislature. The APC’s ultimatum signals a potential showdown in the coming days.
