In a significant move to ease political tensions in Rivers State, Governor Siminalayi Fubara has invited the 27 lawmakers loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for a crucial meeting.
The invitation was conveyed in a letter issued on Sunday by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Tammy Danagogo. Addressed to the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Martin Amaewhule, the letter outlined key issues to be discussed, including the provision of a designated space for legislative sittings, payment of outstanding allowances, and the presentation of the 2025 budget.
According to Danagogo, the meeting, scheduled for Monday, March 10, 2025, follows Governor Fubara’s receipt of the Certified True Copy of the Supreme Court judgment related to the ongoing crisis.
“I hereby write, in furtherance of His Excellency’s promise, to notify you that His Excellency has received the Supreme Court judgment and has therefore directed me to invite you and your colleagues to a meeting,” the letter stated.
The meeting will take place at 10 a.m. at the Government House in Port Harcourt.
This development marks a possible turning point in the lingering political dispute between Fubara and the pro-Wike lawmakers, who had previously issued ultimatums and challenged the governor’s authority.
Observers are keen to see whether this meeting will lead to a lasting resolution or if tensions will persist within the state’s political landscape.
