Reinstated Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, is pressing forward with his legal battle against the allegations that led to his removal, despite regaining his position.

At a resumed hearing before Justice Yetunde Pinheiro at the Ikeja High Court, the case was adjourned until Monday, March 10, 2025, for the hearing of all applications, including Obasa’s originating summons.

His legal counsel, Afolabi Fasanu (SAN), argued that the lawsuit remains valid even though Obasa has been reinstated, as he is contesting the allegations of fraud, high-handedness, abuse of office, and gross misconduct. Fasanu emphasized that his client was not given a fair hearing before his removal on January 13, 2025, by 35 lawmakers.

Meanwhile, Romeo Michael, counsel for the 34 lawmakers listed as defendants, stated that their counterclaim remains valid regardless of whether Obasa decides to withdraw his suit.

The lawmakers are urging the court to declare that Obasa’s removal was constitutional under Section 92 of the 1999 Nigerian Constitution, asserting that it was conducted in accordance with the law and not merely Assembly rules.

The case will continue on March 10, where the court is expected to deliberate on all pending applications.
