The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Nigeria on Thursday interrogated former Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy Ohanenye, over her alleged involvement in the misappropriation and diversion of public funds amounting to ₦138.4 million.
According to sources within the anti-graft agency, the former minister arrived at the EFCC headquarters around 11 a.m. and was subjected to questioning regarding violations of the procurement process and financial misconduct in the disbursement of the 2023 budgeted funds for the Ministry of Women Affairs.
Investigations reportedly revealed that funds allocated for the P-Bat Cares for Women Initiative were allegedly diverted for personal enrichment.
EFCC sources confirmed that Kennedy-Ohanenye has not been granted administrative bail, as the investigation remains ongoing.
The former minister, who was appointed by President Bola Tinubu on August 21, 2023, was among the officials relieved of their duties in October 2024.
