Security operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have forcefully dispersed supporters of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan from the entrance of the National Assembly Complex in Abuja.

The protesters, who gathered early on Wednesday, were demanding the resignation of Senate President Godswill Akpabio following allegations of sexual harassment leveled against him by Akpoti-Uduaghan. However, police officers used tear gas to break up the demonstration, citing concerns over maintaining law and order.

Reports indicate that after being dispersed, the protesters relocated to the Unity Fountain to continue their demonstration.

This development comes amid growing tension between Akpoti-Uduaghan and Akpabio after their heated exchange during a Senate plenary on February 20. The senator was subsequently referred to the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions for disciplinary proceedings. However, a Federal High Court in Abuja recently halted the committee from taking any further action against her.

This is a developing story, and more updates will follow as the situation unfolds.
