Amid the ongoing leadership tussle in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Speaker Mojisola Meranda presided over Monday’s plenary session, while ousted Speaker Mudashiru Obasa was notably absent.

Earlier in the day, Obasa, Meranda, and other lawmakers held a meeting outside the Assembly chambers alongside leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos, including Chairman Cornelius Ojelabi, and the state’s Attorney General, Lawal Pedro (SAN). The meeting, held under a tent, was expected to address the leadership crisis.

Obasa, who arrived at the venue around 1:30 pm, later left after a private discussion with the Attorney General, Ojelabi, and other party stakeholders. His absence at the plenary raises uncertainty about the resolution of the power struggle between him and Meranda.

During the plenary, lawmakers praised Meranda’s leadership, reaffirming their support for her. Meranda was elected Speaker by over 30 lawmakers on January 13 after the Assembly voted to remove Obasa. However, the leadership dispute remains unresolved as political maneuvering continues.
