Joseph Aloba, the father of the late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has voiced his frustration over his son’s decision to purchase properties in the name of his son, Liam, instead of his own.
In a recent TikTok interview, Mr. Aloba revealed that Mohbad had informed him about acquiring a hectare of land in Elepe, Ikorodu, Lagos State, intended for farming, along with two additional plots in Agbowa. However, he expressed disappointment upon discovering that the properties were registered in his grandson’s name rather than his own.
“As his father, I never bought any property in Mohbad’s name. I don’t understand why he decided to buy properties in Liam’s name,” Aloba stated.
His remarks come amid ongoing tensions between Mohbad’s paternal family and his widow, Omowunmi’s relatives, over the late singer’s assets. Omowunmi recently alleged in an interview that her father-in-law was attempting to take control of Mohbad’s estate.
Aloba also claimed that many of the singer’s property documents are currently held by his mother-in-law, adding another layer of complexity to the dispute.
Meanwhile, in a separate development, a Nigerian court ruled on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, that singer Naira Marley and his associate, Sam Larry, have no case to answer regarding Mohbad’s passing. However, the court ruled that Ayobami Sadiq, the nurse who administered the injection that allegedly led to Mohbad’s death, will face prosecution for reckless conduct.
Aloba noted that he had never met the nurse in person but had heard of her online. His comments follow claims by Omowunmi that Mohbad’s father obstructed the nurse’s arrest.
The dispute over Mohbad’s assets and the legal proceedings surrounding his passing continue to stir public attention, reflecting the deep divisions between his family members.
